Canalys recently released a report on the smartphone market in the fourth quarter of 2023, focusing on the performance of different processor vendors. The findings showed that Mediatek dominated the market by powering the most devices, experiencing a 21% increase compared to the previous year.

When it comes to revenue, Apple emerged as the leader in Q4 2023. iPhones, which use Cupertino silicon, generated $87 billion in revenue for the company, reflecting a 20% growth from the same period in the previous year.

The report focused on the period from October to December 2023 and did not cover the entire fiscal year. Mediatek, Apple, and Qualcomm emerged as the top three chipset providers, while Huawei-owned HiSilicon reported $7 billion in revenue from 7 million units sold. Huawei primarily sold nova 12 and Mate 60 phones with a Kirin 9000S chip, fetching an average price of $1000 per unit.

Notably, phones with Unisoc chips from China saw a 24% increase in revenue and volume year over year. Half of these phones were under the Transsion umbrella, which includes popular brands like Infinix, Tecno, and iTel in emerging markets.

Samsung Semiconductor experienced a 48% drop in shipments of phones with Exynos chips, resulting in a quarterly revenue of $5 billion – a 44% decrease from the previous year. However, there is anticipation for a slight increase in the first half of 2024 with the launch of devices like Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy A55 powered by Exynos chips.
