Lahore, the city of gardens and the bustling capital of Punjab, isn’t done innovating its transportation system.  After pioneering the Orange Line Train and Metro Bus Service, the city is gearing up for another groundbreaking project – once again, Lahore will be the first in the province to experience it.

This time, the provincial government has approved to bring the country’s first tram service in Lahore. And the reason behind the move is to make the transport smooth along with adding more beauty to city’s urban aesthetics. In a meeting at Lahore Development Authority (LDA) headquarters, Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz granted the approval.

Route & Stops

The 11-kilometer tram route will snake through key locations like Liberty, Main Market, Mini Market, and Hali Road, with convenient stops spaced every 1 to 1.5 kilometers. This will provide residents and visitors with a convenient and efficient way to navigate the city’s bustling center.

The project envisions modern tram designs, with influences potentially drawn from Finland and China. These trams will offer a comfortable and stylish riding experience, making commuting a pleasure.

Enhancing Lahore’s Urban Aesthetics

The tram service isn’t just about functionality; it’s about enhancing Lahore’s visual appeal. MM Alam Road will undergo a transformation, incorporating remodeling and beautification efforts. Uniform roads and tuff tiles will create a cohesive and aesthetically pleasing streetscape.

The project extends to Gulberg and its adjoining areas, where construction, renovation, and rehabilitation plans are underway. This comprehensive approach ensures that the tram service integrates seamlessly into the city’s existing infrastructure.

While the official launch date remains undisclosed, the government emphasizes swift project completion. This ensures that residents can experience the benefits of the tram service as soon as possible. Ticket prices will be determined upon project finalization.

The tram service isn’t the only infrastructure upgrade Lahore residents can look forward to. The Chief Minister also greenlit a signal-free corridor stretching from Kareem Block to the Motorway. This initiative, along with the tram service, aims to significantly improve traffic management in the city.
