Just as we spoke about regarding Motorola’s plans for updating Android 14, it’s worth reiterating that while some manufacturers are prompt in releasing updates (like Google and Samsung), others like Motorola and HMD Global lag behind.

Today, HMD has commenced the roll out of Android 14 to the Nokia G42, which was introduced last June. This marks the first HMD device to receive the new OS update that was launched by Google several months ago, and hopefully, it won’t be the last. However, HMD hasn’t released a list of eligible phones yet.

The update has been rolled out in India only for now. It is available as a 2.68GB over-the-air download, so ensure you are connected to a reliable and fast network for downloading it. Once installed, your software version will be updated to V2.160, and you will have the December 2023 security patch.

As is common with such rollouts, it is likely that the distribution is being done in batches, so if you have a G42 bought from India, you may not have received the notification yet. However, as the rollout is underway, it should only be a matter of a few days. We hope more countries will receive it soon.

Recently, both the Nokia G60 and the Nokia X30 were seen on Geekbench running Android 14, indicating that HMD Global is testing the release for those devices. This suggests that they might be the next in line.
