Samsung is set to unveil the Galaxy S24 series on January 17 in an effort to put an end to the various rumors and leaks that have been circulating. However, despite this being two weeks away, there’s already a clear picture of what can be expected thanks to the numerous leaks and rumors. If you haven’t already, check out the details for the Galaxy S24 Ultra. In this article, we’ll be focusing on the two smaller models.
LTPO displays, QHD+ for the S24+
It’s embarrassing, but the Galaxy S23 and S23+ flagships are only able to operate their displays at a few predetermined refresh rates. The long-awaited switch to LTPO panels in the non-Ultra flagships of 2024 will allow for a variable refresh rate between 1Hz and 120Hz.
The Samsung Galaxy S24+ is also expected to upgrade to a QHD+ resolution after several years of FHD+. However, the smaller S24 model will stick with FHD+ (the S20 and S20+ did have QHD+ displays).
Both the Galaxy S24 and the S24+ will see an increase in screen size to 6.2” and 6.7”, respectively. Most of this increase will come at the expense of the bezels, as the two models are expected to be roughly the same size as their S23 predecessors.
The new panels will also be notably brighter, targeting 2,600 nits compared to 1,750 nits peak for the 2023 generation.
(Slightly) bigger batteries, same charging
Despite keeping the dimensions roughly the same, the Galaxy S24 and S24+ will have slightly larger batteries. The petite model will have a 4,000mAh capacity (a 100mAh increase over the S23) and the plus model will have a 4,900mAh capacity (a 200mAh increase over the S23+).
However, there won’t be any improvements in charging speed. The Galaxy S24+ will top out at 45W over USB-C, while the S24 will be limited to 25W. Both models will do 15W wirelessly.
The return of Exynos
It is all but confirmed that the Galaxy S24 and S24+ will use an Exynos chip, with only the US and Canadian units using the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy (which is the only chip for the S24 Ultra).
The Exynos 2400 promises a 70% uplift in CPU performance, compared to the Exynos 2200 from 2022.

The chip is reported to be massively faster at AI tasks, 14.7x faster, and it will power features like Live Translate and Generative Edit. These features are rumored to be utilizing the device and cloud support, respectively.
Future Galaxy S24+ buyers will benefit from increased RAM capacity, which will be 12GB (up from 8GB in the S23+). However, the base storage for the small S24 will remain at 128GB, while the S24+ will have 256GB as standard. Pre-order units will also receive a free memory upgrade.
Same cameras
There are no indications that the Galaxy S24 and S25 cameras will be updated in terms of hardware. This means a 50MP main sensor, with no changes expected for the ultra wide (12MP) and telephoto (10MP) modules either. Additionally, the selfie camera will maintain the 12MP sensor from last year.
Armor Aluminum 2.0
While the Galaxy S24 Ultra is set to adopt titanium for its frame, it appears that the less premium Galaxy S24 and S24+ will have a new version of Armor Aluminum. These phones will be rated IP68 for dust and water resistance, just like their predecessors. The S24 and S24+ will be available in four standard colors: Onyx Black, Marble Gray, Cobalt Violet, and Amber Yellow, with additional hues to be launched later in the year.

Prices
Europeans may feel some relief when they see that the Galaxy S24 and S24+ are expected to be €50 cheaper than their predecessors in the EU. However, it’s important to note that Europeans will not have a choice and will have to get an Exynos-powered phone.
Galaxy S23 | Galaxy S24 | |
---|---|---|
128GB | €950 | €900 |
256GB | €1,010 | €960 |

256GB | €1,200 | €1,150 |

Prices in South Korea are expected to remain the same. There is no information available for the US or Canada, but given the trade-in offers from Samsung in those regions, upgrading from a 2022 or 2023 Galaxy S phone should be quite affordable. Additionally, pre-order deals are speculated to include a free storage upgrade and possibly other perks such as discounts on Galaxy Watch or Buds.
