The Digital Markets Act (DMA) recently implemented by the EU continues to bring positive changes for users who have wished for Apple to be more open and less restrictive on their mobile devices.

Previously, we discussed how the DMA compelled Apple to allow third-party app stores, alternative browsers, and payment systems on iOS. However, there is more to it – Apple is now developing a method to simplify the process of switching from an iPhone to an Android device.

Apple will make switching to Android easier and let users uninstall Safari

Yes, you heard it right. By fall 2025, Apple promises a more user-friendly approach to transferring data to a non-Apple phone. This is part of Apple’s compliance with the DMA, as outlined in a newly published document.

Additionally, there will be a feature to transfer data between browsers on the same iOS device by late 2024 or early 2025. By March 2025, users in the EU will also have the option to change their default navigation app.

Furthermore, users will soon have the ability to completely uninstall Safari if they prefer using another browser. This option will be available by the end of this year.

However, these features are expected to be exclusive to the EU, as the DMA only applies in that region. Apple’s compliance with the DMA has been primarily focused on the EU, with restrictions on certain features when users travel outside the bloc.
