Recent reports from China suggested that Apple had made a decision to utilize Baidu’s generative AI services in China, but it now appears that this information may have been premature.

Another report from China today indicates that the deal has not been finalized yet. It is unclear whether discussions are still ongoing or if no agreement has been reached at this time.

Apple's deal with Baidu for generative AI services in China is still pending

If Apple ultimately does decide to use Baidu’s generative AI services in the Chinese market, it will be integrated into iOS 18, set to be released later this fall.

Apple cannot use AI developed in the West, as Chinese authorities require approval for each model released to the public, making it unlikely that non-Chinese AI solutions would be approved. Therefore, Apple must choose a local partner, with Baidu previously being a likely candidate. However, the current status of the partnership remains uncertain. Only time will tell what the outcome will be.
