Apple’s Decade-Long Quest for an Electric Car Comes to an End

Apple Inc., the technology giant famous for its iPhones and other breakthroughs, has chosen to scrap its ambitious plan to develop an electric car, as reported by Bloomberg from sources familiar with the situation. This move marks the conclusion of a decade-long endeavor aimed at transforming the automotive sector.

The Conclusion of Project Titan: A Massive Billion-Dollar Initiative

A mere day prior to the internal announcement, Apple surprised its nearly 2000 employees assigned to the project. Chief Operating Officer Jeff Williams and Vice President Kevin Lynch broke the news, announcing the winding down of Project Titan.

Many members of the car team, known as the Special Projects Group (SPG), will be transferred to the artificial intelligence division to engage in generative AI projects, a key focus area for the company.

While some employees may find placements in other Apple teams, layoffs are expected, with the extent still unclear. The decision to abandon the project has led to an increase in Apple’s stock price, with even Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla Inc., expressing approval on social media.

Project Titan was Apple’s ambitious initiative to create a fully autonomous electric vehicle with luxurious interiors and advanced navigation systems. However, the project encountered obstacles in a cooling electric vehicle (EV) market. High prices and inadequate charging infrastructure hampered widespread adoption, resulting in stagnant sales growth.
