Recent information from an industry insider suggests that BOE is likely to be the main supplier, if not the exclusive one, of the 6.1-inch OLED panels for the upcoming iPhone SE 4. Samsung reportedly withdrew from the competition due to Apple’s lower pricing offer for each panel.
According to the report, a single 6.1-inch OLED unit costs about $30 at Samsung, while Apple’s offer was $25. Additionally, the same source indicates that Apple’s price is even lower than what Chinese manufacturers are charging.
Now that Samsung has exited the competition, BOE and Tianma are the remaining contenders, with BOE likely to secure all the orders for the iPhone SE 4.
Sources familiar with the situation reveal that Samsung wasn’t very keen on the deal from the start due to thin profit margins. Therefore, when Apple requested an even lower price per unit, Samsung decided to end the negotiations.
