Namaskaar Doston, Ratan Tata, founder of the TATA group, passed away on Wednesday, October 10, at the age of 86, in Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai.
For India, Ratan TATA was one of the most influential people and one of the greatest business tycoons in the country. He is mostly known for its TATA Motors, which makes consumer-scale automobiles, including SUVs, Crossovers, Hatchbacks, and Sedans, good enough that according to Cars24 (India’s one of the biggest classified platforms) claimed that TATA is the 3rd most selling car brand in India, surpassing Toyota and Kia. In this trendy topic, let’s have a look at some of the popular and best-selling TATA cars in India.
Note: This list isn’t a bluff; it’s based on stats and facts obtained from Statista and V3cars.
TATA Punch
TATA Punch, a 1200cc compact crossover, has been the selling car of 2024 in TATA’s lineup for more than a year and even got the award for “Best-selling car of India.” You see, Indian consumers also share the same interests as Pakistani car consumers; they also look for muscular looks and bulky aesthetics, and TATA Punch has got it. Under the price of 600K INR, Punch offers a solid deal for Indian consumers. Although the engine is dinky 1200ccc, safety, looks, and aesthetics-wise, it’s a really solid and 10/10 baddie car. Under 2 million PKR, you get a cyberpunk styling crossover that has 4 airbags, 5-star ANCAP ratings, and a solid 6 speakers set. In contrast to Pakistan, even the base Alto would cost you 2.3 million PKR that shares the built quality with a sabun daani.
TATA Nexon
Price: 2.6 Million PKR
TATA Nexon was the most popular TATA car before the Punch. From looks, it’s really a solid car and looks too futuristic for us. The curves, tube light-like headlights, and star-like rims look really cool on it—a 1.2-liter turbocharged engine with 5 seating capacity is really impressive for a car that costs only 2.6 million PKR. 5-star ANCAP ratings and a good-looking interior, 4 airbags, and 6 speakers set with a solid built quality seem more than enough for a family crossover.
A nice thing is that this Indian car has 6 airbags and 4 speakers unlike Pakistani Sportage that has 2 airbags and 6 speakers because music is more important than life.
TATA Tiago
Price: 1.8 Million PKR
Tiago is a budget-friendly hatchback from India. It’s way better than Cultus, which gives competition to a microwave. This budget-friendly hatchback has 4-star ANCAP ratings and two airbags in a standard variant with a 1200cc engine. Although the interior is not so good, just like the Picanto, it’s a really value-for-money car for Indian consumers who are upgrading from WagonR (the Indian version). Mostly, middle-class people who want to stay light on their pockets buy this type of car. 18 lacs PKR, that’s way too cheap for Pakistani market, unlike Alto which is nothing just a piece of metal with a motorcycle engine and costs 22 lacs PKR.
TATA Curvv
Price: 3.3 Million PKR
TATA Curvv is a 1,500cc crossover with a modern design that’s gaining good attention in the Indian market. A clean, futuristic look and is priced under 3.3 million PKR, making it a reasonable option for buyers seeking both style and functionality. The Curvv comes with features like a panoramic sunroof, and a 5-star ANCAP rating, providing a good balance of safety and aesthetics. Compared to Pakistani competitors, where cars like the Tucson cost over 7 million PKR, the Curvv offers a completely next-level driving experience for a relatively fraction of what Tucson costs here.
TATA Altroz
Price: 2.21 Million PKR
A 1200cc mid-size hatchback made specifically for mid-size families, the TATA is a good uplift version of Tiago. In India, it’s a competitor of Suzuki Swift. Although Swift is really a solid car features-wise, built- and safety-wise, TATA is the king in India. We were seeing some Indian reviewers, and it seems like it’s as popular as Swift in Pakistan., but unlike Pakistan, Altroz isn’t an overpriced can that costs 6.5 million PKR, and that’s the reason why TATA has managed to sell 3,000 units in a single month.
