After receiving approval from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization in India, Samsung’s Galaxy Watch4, Watch5, and Watch6 models (including the Pro and Classic versions) can now, for the first time, measure blood pressure and perform an ECG in India. This is a notable milestone for the devices.
In order to utilize these features, users must have the Samsung Health Monitor app installed on both their watch and a compatible Samsung phone running Android 9.0 or later. This may appear restrictive to some users, but it is a necessary requirement to access these health monitoring capabilities.
Before taking a blood pressure measurement, a calibration process is required, and users need an upper-arm, cuff-based blood pressure monitor. Additionally, recalibration is necessary every 28 days based on the monitor’s readings.
Performing an ECG is a less involved process, but still requires a compatible Samsung phone. The scanning process takes approximately 30 seconds, during which the user must remain still. Users can even add symptoms to their ECG report if they are experiencing any. The ECG report can be viewed on the phone using a separate app called ECG Monitor.
