BMW has issued a recall notice for 720,000 vehicles due to a potential fire risk. The cause of recall is the water pump connector in the car. The connector might short circuit, which could lead to a fire hazard. As a result, the recall has impacted 12 BMW models manufactured between 2012 and 2018. It is being conducted in coordination with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The NHTSA mentioned in the document, “An inaccurately encased electrical connector on the water pump can be exposed to water, thus creating a risk for short circuit and potentially a fire. The chances of such incidents leading to a fire are rare.

Additionally, the NHTSA said that BMW was aware of 18 thermal events occurring worldwide. In March, the Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport notified BMW about a thermal incident on an unknown vehicle in January in the United States. However, it did not provide details about the nature of the incident. The automaker, BMW, had not been alerted of any accidents or injuries.
