Bose has introduced the new Ultra Open Earbuds, a set of wireless earbuds that utilize a unique open ear design. The intention behind this design is to allow users to hear their audio content while remaining completely aware of their surroundings since their ears are never blocked.
The Ultra Open Earbuds are meant to be worn on the outer ear and hand off the earlobes. Sporting a U-shaped design, they have a section that fits within the outer ear and a prolonged part that rests outside the ear, connected by a soft rubber material. Additionally, the extended part contains a button for accessing various features and playback options.
These earbuds also include Bose’s exclusive OpenAudio technology that delivers sound directly into the ear canal using a powerful transducer and a precisely controlled acoustic structure with minimal sound leakage, ensuring that the sound is only heard by the wearer.
Moreover, the Ultra Open Earbuds boast the Bose Immersive Audio feature, which leverages the company’s custom digital signal processing and an onboard inertial measurement unit to produce a spatial audio effect that creates the illusion of sound coming from all around the user. This feature offers two modes: Still, for stationary situations, and Motion, for when the user is on the move.
In terms of audio quality, the Ultra Open Earbuds come with Snapdragon Sound, incorporating the latest Qualcomm aptX Adaptive codec that supports high-quality, low latency audio. Along with Bluetooth 5.3, there is no multi-device pairing capability, although users can easily switch between the current and last paired device with the tap of a button.
Additionally, other functionalities include Auto Volume, which automatically adjusts the volume level based on ambient noise, Google Fast Pair support, an IPX4 rating for water and sweat resistance, and Bose SimpleSync for connecting to select Bose smart soundbars and speakers.
Claiming a battery life of 7.5 hours of continuous playback, the Ultra Open Earbuds’ battery life drops to 4.5 hours when using Immersive Audio. The charging case provides an additional 19.5 (or 12) hours of battery life, and a quick 10-minute charge offers 2 hours of playtime.
The Bose Ultra Open Earbuds are priced at $299 and are now available for purchase on Bose.com and at select retailers.
