It’s finally the EV revolution that has come to Pakistan. We’re getting new EV cars; in fact, 2024 is the year of the launch of EV cars. We saw Deepal, BYD, Honri, and GUGO, and now it’s Seres that has just launched one of Pakistan’s first locally assembled EV vehicles, Seres 3.
Now, this locally assembled all-electric vehicle will cost you 8.4 million on the invoice. At this price, you can get a good option from BYD, Atto 3, for 8.99 million on the invoice. Both are almost the same category of vehicles and are all-electric vehicles.
Let’s do the comparison to see which one is best and provides better value:
BYD Atto 3
The Atto 3 is the same category of cars as MG HS and MG ZS but in the EV version. In Pakistan, you might be hearing BYD for the first time, but internationally, BYD is probably older than many millennials. They hold a major share of worldwide Li-ion battery production, and this company produces many iPhone batteries.
Coming back to the car itself, it’s a really nice car compared to what others are offering in the same price range. Most of the interior is covered in nice soft-touch vegan leather,r and it’s all comfy inside. Unlike other EVs that use a big TV-like infotainment with minimalist interior buttons, Atto 3 uses the opposite approach. The ocean inspires everything, and it’s curvy like waves of water.
A 60.48 kWh (Standard Version) / 82.5 kWh (Long Range Version) battery comes with the car that can give you enough range to go from Lahore to Islamabad on a single change in a base version, but we don’t recommend doing this experiment.
The ride quality is smooth, and bumps on potholes aren’t noticeable. It’s much better than other local Korean options in this budget, which are worldwide obsolete generation cars in the 8 million price range (you know who).
Seres 3 CKD
Last month, Regal Motors became one of the first brands to assemble electric vehicles in Pakistan locally, and here is its first unit. Just like Atto 3, the Seres 3 falls under the same category of car.
It’s hard to call it a proper crossover from its looks; it looks more like a Vezel or HR-V. It has a 49.34 kWh battery that generates 160 HP of power and 300 Nm of torque. It’s not the most powerful EV crossover, but the figures are enough for city driving and occasional motorway rides.
Inside, it’s a light-brownish interior wrapped in soft-touch vegan leather. The design language is completely changed in Seres compared to Atto 3. It follows the conventional design of the 2018 Audi, but it looks elegant, minimal, and makes sense.
From the outside, one thing we noticed is that it looks like a compressed sedan or a stretched hatchback, but it’s not like the Sportage or Tucson, which looks like a proper crossover.
