Some time ago we got our first look at the upcoming Google Pixel Fold 2 and it appeared unusual. The camera ‘visor’ on the back was missing, replaced with a rounded rectangle island containing two oval-shaped areas, stacked on top of each other, housing the cameras.
It looked like an unfinished prototype. However, Google seems to be sticking with this design as CAD-based renders of the Pixel Fold 2 have been leaked today and the phone looks identical to the one in the previous hands-on shot.
The visor is indeed gone, replaced by, in this writer’s opinion, the least aesthetically pleasing camera island/protrusion in mobile world history. It is not appealing in its shape, proportions, or placement. Setting that aside, the phone is the Charcoal color version of the upcoming foldable smartphone.
The inner screen has an under-display selfie camera in the top right, allowing for smaller bezels than the original Pixel Fold. The outer screen, 6.4″ in size (or 6.6″ factoring in the corners), is much larger than its predecessor’s and features a centered hole-punch for a selfie camera.
The inner screen measures 7.9″ diagonally without considering the corners – with corners, it’s 8.1″. When unfolded, the phone’s dimensions are 155.2 x 150.2 x 5.27 mm, making it much squarer than its predecessor, as previously rumored. It’s also marginally thinner when folded, measuring 155.2 x 77.1 x 10.54 mm, even thinner than what’s rumored for the Galaxy Z Fold6.
The USB-C port, speaker grille, and SIM tray are located on the lower frame, while the power and volume buttons are on the right. A secondary speaker grille is positioned at the top, along with an antenna line cut into the metal frame.
According to previous rumors, the Pixel Fold 2 may use the Tensor G4 chipset, potentially pushing its launch to October alongside the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro. It is expected to come with 16GB of RAM, a record for Google so far, and UFS 4.0 storage.
