Following a series of declines and consecutive drops, car sales in Pakistan have started this year on a positive note. According to PAMA (Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association), the month-on-month (MoM) report showed an impressive 81% increase in car sales, with 10,536 units sold in Jan’23 compared to 5,816 vehicles in December 2023.
However, in a year-over-year (YoY) comparison, there was a slight 5% decrease, as car manufacturers sold 11,124 cars during the same period last year, due to a significant rise in car prices, reduced purchasing power, and low car financing.
Motorcycles
Similarly, there was a significant increase in motorcycle sales, with a notable uptick of 27% last month, reaching 104,619 units compared to 82,362 bikes sold in December 2023. Of particular note is the 28% increase in sales for Japanese motorcycle manufacturer Honda, which sold 92,041 units last month, up from 72,096 units in December ’23.
Meanwhile, Pak Suzuki also experienced a 9% increase, selling 1,484 units last month compared to 1,363 bikes in December ’23.
Trucks & Buses
There was a significant 130% surge in truck and bus sales on a month-on-month (MoM) basis, with 242 units sold last month compared to 105 in December 2023.
