In the Pakistani community, we’ve given cool nicknames to cars. And if you’re into cars, you probably know them, but if you don’t, here are the nicknames we remember so far; it’s surely going to amuse you if you are reading them for the first time:
To maintain the class, we are keeping the names in Urdu and not translating them into English
Suzuki Alto – Sabun Dani
Well, it justifies this nickname. Cheap, build quality, and is light as a soap stand. Although its new generation is no different from the last one, it is still the most selling car in Pakistan with an average of 6,000 monthly sales.
Suzuki Mehran – The Boss
Mehran was given the title of “Boss” by Zilley Subhan in one of its owner’s reviews. And that’s the best name that defines Mehran as well. Basically, it can survive and get to those places where big 4x4s fail, e.g., snow-packed roads or too many muddy roads in Northern areas.
Furthermore, it’s the only car that survived 31 years of production in Pakistan, becoming the longest-production car in Pakistan’s history. During its production run, the Mehran dominated its competition, with no brand daring to challenge it. Those who tried ultimately failed. So, technically, it deserves the boss title.
Honda City i-DSI – Chooha City
Just look at the city’s front profile; it’s exactly like a mouse. We think the designers of this City took inspiration from mice when designing the front profile.
Suzuki Bolan – Carry Dabba
From the side profile, it looks like a box and, hence, dabba. The “Carry” is given after its imported variant, which was produced internationally in the 1980’s and named as “Carry ST-90.” Pak Suzuki brought the same variant to Pakistan and renamed it to “Bolan.”
Daihatsu Charade 3rd Generation – Anda Charade
The back of this car looks like an egg. Especially if you look at the side profile, it seems like Daihatsu took inspiration from an egg while doing R&D for its design. Although it was known as a pocket rocket in the 1980s, even today, it can give tough competition to Civic Reborn and Rebirth in acceleration.
Honda Civic 8th Gen – Reborn
When it was launched, Reborn was everyone’s favorite. It was a complete and refreshed look from its prior 7th-generation model, hence the name. Launched in 2005, it still does not look like a two-decade-old car if you sit in it.
Honda Civic 5th Gen – Dolphin Civic
I don’t know who named it a dolphin because it doesn’t look like a dolphin at all. However, the front headlights look like the chin of the dolphin, hence the name, Dolphin Civic.
Honda Civic 7th Gen – Eagle Eye
This one looks exactly like its nickname. If you notice the 7th gen’s headlights, they look exactly like an Eagle’s eyes.
