Apple recently announced its response to the EU’s Digital Markets Act by opening Labs for developers to test their iOS apps and marketplaces.
Developers who have agreed to the controversial business terms will now be able to use new features in the App Store Connect and App Store Connect API to set up their applications. They can then beta-test all the new features using TestFlight.
While the European Commission required Apple to open iOS for alternative app stores, the implementation has raised concerns from industry leaders, including the CEOs of Spotify, Epic, and Xbox President.
The new changes are set to take effect by March 2024. The EC will review Apple’s methods next month, and there is a chance they will push for further changes to open up competition.
