Despite advancements in wireless earbuds, battery degradation remains a common issue leading to their disposal over time. Fairphone aims to change this narrative with their latest offering – Fairbuds wireless earbuds. These in-ear TWS earbuds boast a modular design focused on easy repairability, a trademark feature of Fairphone products.
Fairphone will provide replacement parts for key components like the earbud battery, silicon ring covering the battery compartment, charging case battery, core, and shell. Users can replace these parts easily with just a Phillips #00 screwdriver and a prying tool. The only lingering question is the cost of these replacement parts.
Like all Fairphone products, Fairbuds are crafted using fair and recycled materials, making them electronic waste neutral.
The technical specifications include titanium-coated 11mm drivers, Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity, and multi-point pairing for two devices. Fairbuds come equipped with wear sensors for automatic play and pause, capacitive touch controls (including volume adjustments), active noise cancellation (ANC), and Environmental Noise Canceling (ENC) for calls through their six microphones (three on each earbud).
Each Fairbud contains a 45 mAh battery, and the charging case houses a 500 mAh cell. The earbuds offer a battery life of 6 hours, with an additional 20 hours provided by the case. With an IP54 rating, Fairbuds are compatible with Fairphone’s Android and iOS companion app for customizable EQ controls and remapping.
