Google is rumored to be changing the name of its upcoming foldable smartphone from Pixel Fold 2 to Pixel 9 Pro Fold in an attempt to reshape public perception. Reports suggest that the device may be unveiled at Google’s hardware event in October, deviating from the previous launch timeline at Google I/O in May.

If the rumors hold true, Google could potentially be unveiling four smartphones in October: the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro XL are expected to be successors to the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, while the Pixel 9 Pro is rumored to feature similar specs in a smaller size. All devices are expected to be powered by the upcoming Tensor G4 SoC.
The decision to rebrand the device as the Pixel 9 Pro Fold was made recently in internal communications at Google, but plans could still change before the official release.
