Toyota acknowledges the preference of Pakistani drivers for gasoline vehicles, so they have introduced a new ICE variant in their Corolla Cross lineup. While the hybrid version was launched in December to compete with the Haval H6 and KIA Sportage, this gasoline variant is a recent addition to Toyota’s affordable lineup. Let’s compare the two models.
Corolla Cross – Overview
Previously, the hybrid Corolla Cross was released in December 2023 with three trim levels. Now, the gasoline version has two variants: 1.8X and 1.8, with the 1.8X being the top option. Both versions share similar dimensions and build quality, with slight differences in specs and prices.
Engine and Transmission
The hybrid models have a 1.8L 2ZR-FXE engine producing 167Hp, while the gasoline engine 2ZR-FE delivers 138Hp and 172N-m of torque. Both variants come with Continuously Variable Transmission. In terms of fuel efficiency, the hybrids offer 22-25 km/L, compared to 14-15 km/L for the gasoline version.
Exterior
The Cross retains its bold grille, Bi-beam LEDs, fog lights, and DRLs in the top variant, while the base model has halogen bulbs. The gasoline base model lacks a sunroof and kick sensor boot, but shares design elements with the hybrid, such as character lines, black cladding, and parking sensors.
Interior
The interior of the gasoline variant differs slightly from the hybrid, with leather seats and a steering cover only available in the hybrid. The gasoline model replaces the digital infotainment cluster with analog gauges.
Safety features like Hill Assist, Dual-Zone Climate Control, and 7 Airbags remain the same in both variants, but the gasoline model lacks the Blind Spot Monitoring System.
For those seeking a beginner crossover on a budget, the Toyota Corolla Cross gasoline variant offers a great option with six color choices.
