To address the ongoing traffic congestion at Garhi Shahu Chowk in Lahore, the Punjab Development Working Party (PDWP) has approved the construction of a flyover and an underpass. This decision comes with a budget of Rs. 3,951.469 million, demonstrating the government’s commitment to improving urban infrastructure.
The approval was granted during the 37th meeting of the Punjab Development Working Party, attended by key officials including Chairman Planning and Development (P&D) Board Iftikhar Ali Sahoo and Secretary P&D Board Muzaffar Khan Sial.
In addition, the meeting also gave the green light for the construction of a signal-free corridor from Karim Market to Motorway (M-2) Phase-I in Lahore. This project has a budget of Rs. 2,975.034 million and aims to provide a seamless commuting experience for residents and visitors.
Other Projects
It is worth noting that Walton Road, a major link between DHA and Ferozepur Road, used to experience heavy traffic throughout the day. With the completion of this project, traffic flow will be uninterrupted, relieving the burden on adjacent roads. The companies and authorities have ensured speedy work and completed the project in around three months.
In a proactive move, Syed Mohsin Naqvi, the caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab, conducted a late-night inspection of the ongoing construction at the River Ravi Bridge and Shahdara Chowk in Lahore.
By observing the night shift workers and assessing the progress of drilling activities, Naqvi emphasized the importance of timely completion and directed the team to expedite the work and utilize all available resources to meet the January 31 deadline.
