The latest announcement this week is the introduction of the Nothing Phone (2a), representing the company’s debut in the mid-range smartphone market. Nothing has always been known for its stylish yet affordable offerings, and this is evident in the (2a).
Priced at €330, this mid-range device boasts a large 6.7” 120Hz AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution, featuring 10-bit colors and protected by Gorilla Glass 5. It also comes with IP54 dust and water resistance. Additionally, it sports a 50+50MP dual rear camera setup and a 32MP front camera, mirroring the premium features of the Phone (2).
Under the hood, the Nothing Phone (2a) houses a 5,000mAh battery with 45W charging (excluding wireless charging). The device is powered by a Dimensity 7200 Pro chipset, surpassing the 778G chipset found in the original Phone (1), although not as powerful as the chipset in the Phone (2). For just an extra €50, users can upgrade to 4 additional gigs of RAM and double the storage, making it a worthwhile investment. Additionally, purchasing the phone comes with a free pair of CMF Buds Pro earbuds valued at €50.
Currently, the 12/256GB variant of the Nothing Phone (2) is priced at €580, while the 512GB version is priced at €680, indicating a significant premium over the (2a) model. However, this premium offers several enhancements, such as the faster Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, enabling 4K @ 60fps video recording compared to the Dimensity’s limit of 4K @ 30fps. The Phone (2) also features a 6.7” LTPO display with FHD+ resolution and supports 15W wireless charging.
Recently, the Samsung Galaxy A25 was discounted, and now the more affordable Samsung Galaxy A15 5G is available for just under €200, offering a saving of €35 from the original price. Powered by the Dimensity 6100+ chipset, this device features expandable storage and comes pre-installed with Android 14, with a promise of 3 OS updates and 4 years of security patches.
Similar to the A25, the Galaxy A15 5G sports a 6.5” FHD+ AMOLED display but with a 90Hz refresh rate. The camera setup includes a 50MP main sensor, 5MP ultra-wide sensor, and a 13MP selfie camera. The device is equipped with a 5,000mAh battery and supports 25W wired charging.
With the release of the Realme 12 Pro, the Realme 11 Pro has received a price reduction, positioning it slightly above the Galaxy A15 5G. Featuring a 6.7” OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 10-bit panel, this device offers a 100MP main camera with OIS. However, it lacks an ultra-wide lens and does not include a microSD slot or a headphone jack. On the bright side, it supports 67W fast charging for the 5,000mAh battery.
For users looking for a more high-end experience, the Realme 12 Pro+ offers a 12/512GB configuration with the same Dimensity 7050 chipset as the regular Pro. It features a 6.7” 120Hz OLED display and upgrades to a 200MP main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide camera, and a 32MP selfie camera. The device also supports 100W charging for the 5,000mAh battery.
In the sub-€200 price range, the Moto G54 presents an alternative with a 6.5” 120Hz IPS LCD display (FHD+ resolution). This device features a 50MP main camera with OIS but lacks an ultra-wide sensor. Additionally, the 5,000mAh battery supports 15W charging, which is slower compared to other models in the same price range.
