In 2020, Google introduced the Reading mode app and with the most recent update, the company has enhanced the app to be even more practical. The app now functions within Gmail, Threads and X, as well as other social media and email apps.
After Google’s recent changes to Assistant’s “Read aloud” feature, I switched to their Reading Mode app and have been extremely satisfied. It’s even superior to Assistant. To activate it instantly, just swipe up from the bottom with two fingers. Brilliant.

For those who are unfamiliar, Reading mode transforms every page into plain text, making it much easier to read without any distractions. Therefore, the fact that Reading mode now supports Gmail and social media apps marks a significant step forward.
However, developers caution that the app may not be fully compatible with all social media and email apps, but it should still get the job done. Furthermore, the app has the capability to read text out loud, which is useful for those on the go or prefer to listen rather than read.
