The Galaxy AI from Samsung was a major highlight of Samsung’s Unpacked event today, debuting on the Galaxy S24 smartphones and poised as a key selling point for the company. It was announced that this new technology is powered by Google Cloud.

As the first partner deploying Gemini Pro and Imagen 2 on Vertex AI via the cloud to their smartphones, Samsung has taken a pioneering step.

Gemini has the ability to understand and combine different types of information, including text, code, images, and video, and integrate this across native apps like Notes, Voice Recorded, and Keyboard. The generative AI technology is set to improve with time and offers features such as security, safety, privacy, and data compliance, as noted in the press release.

Janghyun Yoon, Corporate EVP and Head of Software Office of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung, expressed his excitement about the Galaxy S24 series being equipped with Gemini Pro.

Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, added that Samsung developers will make use of the platform’s infrastructure, performance, and flexibility to offer generative AI to Samsung users.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 devices will come with Android 14 pre-installed, featuring Gemini Nano, which is an on-device LLM (large language model). This feature, as seen in Pixel 8 Pro devices, provides smart replies in messages, stabilizes slightly shaky videos, and enhances night shots.
