Google has decided to rename its AI assistant Bard to Gemini, and this service is now accessible in the US, Latin America, Africa, Asia Pacific, and Canada. It is set to take over from Google Assistant on both Android and iOS, and a recent report has suggested that it will soon be compatible with headphones as well.
According to 9to5Google, a beta version of the Google app (15.6) contained the following message:
Gemini mobile app is working on expanding availability to make it accessible on your headphones
Some headphones have a gesture or button that activates a voice assistant, and currently, only Google Assistant is supported, even though Gemini has replaced it on smartphones. The Pixel Buds Pro is an example of this as it still functions with the old service, as evidenced by its voice and capabilities, as per the source.
Google has stressed that its primary focus is on the smartphone app, and while it has not yet arrived in Europe, one of the company’s key markets, Gemini will eventually be compatible with audio wearables. When this happens, we can expect shorter answers or the ability to customize playback speed.
