Google Maps is rolling out new features to assist you with your summer adventures. It is now simpler to explore helpful lists from top sites and the Maps community, beginning in designated cities in the US and Canada.
Upon searching for one of these cities in Maps, you can swipe up to view curated lists of recommendations “from locals who are well-acquainted with the city”, according to Google. These lists will also include recommendations from “beloved sites” such as The Infatuation’s curated restaurants, Lonely Planet’s guides, The New York Times’ 36 Hours itineraries, and OpenTable’s guides to the best new eateries.
Additionally, Google Maps will introduce new restaurant lists based on “popular or favored places on Maps currently”. These lists will debut in over 40 cities across the US and Canada this week. The Trending list is regularly refreshed with places that have recently gained popularity on Maps, the Top list showcases consistently adored places, and the Gems list unveils “the neighborhood’s hidden treasures”, featuring restaurants that are still relatively unknown.
If you are a fan of using lists in Maps, you will appreciate the ability to reorder items as you see fit. You can also create ranked lists and link content from your social media channels in your list to explain why a place deserves its spot. This feature will be available globally on Maps before the end of the month.
With AI playing an increasing role in our lives, Google Maps is leveraging AI to extract important insights from the Maps community. This enables you to quickly understand a place and its highlights. For instance, while viewing photos of food at a restaurant, AI can help you identify the dish, its cost, popularity, and if it is suitable for vegetarians or vegans.
Finally, Maps is receiving a new look with a cleaner home screen featuring fewer tabs, and new pin colors that make it easier to locate places on the map.
