Google has finally launched its new Find My Device network, following delays caused by Apple’s need to add unwanted tracker protection to iOS. This network covers over a billion active devices worldwide, making tracking them much easier.

One particularly interesting feature is the ability to track a Pixel 8 or Pixel 8 Pro even when they are powered off or have no battery. Since the announcement, many people have been wondering if this feature will be available on other smartphones in the future. The answer is yes, but it will take some time.

Google promises Find My Device will work with more phones when they're off

Google is collaborating with other smartphone manufacturers and chipset makers to bring this functionality to other devices. Initially, this feature will be available on premium Android smartphones before expanding to more affordable options.

The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro have specialized hardware that enables tracking when the devices are powered off. Google is urging other manufacturers to adopt similar technology.

It is unclear which premium Android smartphones will receive this feature after the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, and it is uncertain if older Pixel models will be included. Additionally, Google has not provided information on whether existing phones, other than the mentioned Pixels, have the necessary hardware for this feature or if we will have to wait for newer models.
