If you receive a missed call from an unknown number, it can be frustrating not knowing who it is. Truecaller and now Google’s Phone app are looking to help users identify these mystery numbers.
A feature called “Lookup” has been discovered in the beta version 127.0.620688474 of the Google Phone app. This feature allows you to search for information on numbers that are not saved in your contacts.
By clicking on “Lookup”, you will see a list of apps on your device that can handle ‘Web search’ intent, such as the Google app. This will initiate a Google search for the number, a task that can usually be done manually by copying and pasting the number into a search engine.
While this feature can be useful in identifying businesses that have their contact details indexed by Google, it may not be as effective in identifying private individuals. However, apps like Truecaller will still have a purpose in identifying unknown callers.
In theory, apps like Truecaller could potentially integrate with this feature, allowing users to access their databases for more information. This feature has been available in Japan since March and may be rolled out globally in June.
