Motorola introduced its adaptive display concept at Lenovo’s Tech World in October 2023. However, we only had the opportunity to experience it now.
So, what exactly is the Motorola adaptive display concept? In essence, it is a folding device that can be worn on the wrist with a strap accessory.
Remarkably, when unfolded, the concept resembles and functions like a regular smartphone with a 6.9-inch display.
The accompanying strap uses magnets to secure the concept to the wrist.
Now, for the exciting part – bending the concept device. Surprisingly robust, it is oddly satisfying to fold outward. It has a limited range of motion, providing a sense of security that it won’t fold too far. However, we refrained from trying to force it.
Next comes the process of strapping the adaptive display concept onto the wrist. The magnets securely attach, yet there is a slight concern that a bump could dislodge the device from the wrist.
The user interface smartly detects when the foldable is in wrist mode and displays a prominent clock widget at the top. It features a swipeable interface, although the functionality is restricted. Instead of apps, there are widgets, but most are not optimized for the half-screen.
The Motorola Adaptive Display Concept
Motorola’s adaptive display concept remains a prototype at this stage. It is not available for purchase in the foreseeable future. This serves as a demonstration of Motorola’s capabilities in the realm of foldable technology.
