The Hyundai Elantra hybrid is out now at a price tag of Rs.9.7 million. In that price, it’s a C-segment sedan that competes with Civic RS price-wise. Previously, we compared it with the Civic RS. Now, for 2 million cheaper, you can get a Toyota Corolla Altis Grande X CVT-i 1.8 Black Interior. Although the price gap is pretty high, you can almost fit a base variant of Alto or used WagonR in this gap, but still, both cars are of the same segment and from a well-reputed manufacturer and CKD models.
Let’s compare these two models just for the sake of information so you’ll know how far the Elantra is ahead of the Corolla.
Hyundai Elantra Hybrid 7th Generation
Elantra 7th generation is a brand-new addition to our market. It’s a C-segment sedan by Hyundai Nishat that now gets a hybrid powertrain. Exterior-wise, it’s mind-blowingly impressive and will stand out when parked outside the grocery store.
The sharp and aggressive cuts, curvy side profile, and tube light-style headlights make it a true 21st-century car, unlike the Corolla, which is still living in the 2010s era.
Sit inside, and it’s jaw-droppingly premium. All interior parts are soft-touch leather-wrapped, unlike the Corolla, which is all plastic. The seats are super ergonomic and wrap you like a cocoon, which is way better than the seats you get in Corolla.
The Center console is also super-premium, especially the handlebar in the center console, looks super cool, and the gear selector seems like a jet airliner’s throttle knob.
Plus, don’t forget it’s a hybrid car! The Elantra can give you fuel economy of up to 22-25 Kmpl, unlike the Corolla, which doesn’t go above 12 Kmpl because it’s still the same old 2010s technology when there was no hybrid powertrain available on this car.
Toyota Corolla
The Toyota Corolla is a whole other story. It’s not a car if you’re looking for flashy looks or an executive-class feel. Although it’s 2.2 million cheaper than the Elantra Hybrid’s base variant, we still think it’s an overpriced car, especially considering it’s an 11th gen Corolla, which is a decade-old generation. And no, unlike Elantra, it’s not going to stand out at all, no matter where you park it.
The car looks very dull from all the profiles compared to Elantra. Just like the exterior, the interior is also very simple and not very interesting. The dashboard is all plastic, and the seats are PU leather, but they are not as ergonomic as Elantra, which wraps you like a cocoon.
The car does offer essential features like two airbags, a rear camera, and infotainment, but nothing high-tech or fancy stands out, unlike Elantra, which looks like it came straight from the Blade Runner 2047 movie.
The only reason why people buy Corolla is because of Toyota’s emblem and the reliability that Corolla offers. Otherwise, there are many other value-for-money options in a 7.5 million budget – just our opinion.
