Apple manufactured $14 billion worth of iPhones in India in the previous fiscal year, doubling the amount from the previous year and showing a shift away from relying heavily on China.
Reports from Bloomberg indicate that one out of every seven iPhones is now produced in India, accounting for approximately 14% of the total production.
Apple made the decision to relocate some of its production to India due to the tensions between the United States and China. Sources locally revealed that Foxconn manufactured nearly 67% of the iPhones, with Pegatron accounting for an additional 17% in the twelve-month period ending in March 2024.
The remaining units were produced at Wistron’s facility in Karnataka state, which was recently acquired by Tata Group.
Government officials stated that the increase in iPhone manufacturing has generated 150,000 direct jobs. Analysts view this as a major achievement for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s current administration, as he is seeking a third consecutive term in the upcoming elections set to occur in the next few weeks.
