A couple of years ago, we had the opportunity to test out the Infinix Concept Phone 2021, which boasted a remarkable 160W charging capability and sported an electrochromic film on its back. This unique film allowed the phone to transform its color from slate gray to steel blue.
Now, Infinix is introducing a new prototype technology named E-Color Shift. This technology is an enhanced version of the previous concept, offering a wider range of colors to choose from and dividing the back of the phone into individual segments, each of which can change color independently.
A prototype of the Infinix E-Color Shift Technology
This innovative technology utilizes E Ink Prism 3, similar to what is found in ebook readers, making it highly power-efficient. Power is only required for changing the colors, once set, the colors will remain fixed with no power consumption.
The segments can transition between colors rapidly, offering a dynamic visual experience. Infinix envisions an app that will enable users to customize their phone’s appearance by selecting different colors or animations.
Currently, the design features four segments in a 2×2 grid, allowing for captivating animations to be displayed. The technology can also accommodate more complex shapes beyond the traditional rectangular form, as showcased in the image below:
In the future, Infinix aims to expand the number of customizable areas to potentially around 60. This technology is not intended to serve as a second screen on the back, focusing more on dynamic visual aesthetics rather than resolution.
Infinix’s goal is to provide phones with a dynamic appearance that can be altered day by day, hour by hour. The rapid animations offer ample customization options and can be utilized for notifications unlike the previous electrochromic film.
While there are still obstacles to overcome, Infinix anticipates that consumer devices featuring the E-Color Shift Technology could hit the market within the next one to two years.
Thank you for your sharing. I am worried that I lack creative ideas. It is your article that makes me full of hope. Thank you. But, I have a question, can you help me?
