Huawei has unveiled the latest clamshell foldable, the Pocket 2, which boasts significant improvements. The phone features a waterdrop hinge for zero gap, a first for Huawei, as well as four cameras on its cover, a first for flip foldable phones.
On the interior, the Pocket 2 includes a 6.94” foldable LPTO OLED, while the cover adds a 1.15” circular screen alongside the camera island, featuring a dual-circle symmetric design. The larger display boasts Full HD+ resolution, while the circular screen maintains 340 x 340 pixels.
Although Huawei has remained discreet about its chipsets, the Pocket 2 is expected to be powered by the Kirin 9000S. It is available in 12 GB RAM with storage options of 256 GB, 512 GB, or 1 TB. An Art version of the Pocket 2 is also available, boasting 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage.
The Pocket 2’s main camera is a 50 MP shooter with OIS and f/1.6 aperture, complemented by a 12 MP ultra-wide-angle camera with f/2.2 aperture, and an 8 MP 3x telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture and OIS. Additionally, a 2 MP UV sensor is included, functioning as a hyperspectral camera to detect UV intensity and provide skincare recommendations.
For the first time, the Pocket 2 supports two-way satellite messaging through Beidou, the Chinese satellite navigation system. It is powered by a 4,520 mAh battery, with capabilities of 40W wireless charging and 66W wired charging. To address heat concerns, Huawei has integrated a VC and multiple graphite layers to improve the device’s thermal conductivity.
The Pocket 2 runs on HarmonyOS 4 and features an intuitive UI for customizing the cover screen with clock, wallpaper, GIF, or avatar designs, in addition to its notification and selfie-taking functionalities.
If you’re interested in grabbing the Pocket 2, it will be available in stores from today. It comes in four attractive colors, and can be purchased at varying prices based on storage options. The Art version is a bit pricier at CNY 10,999 (over $1,500).
