Islamabad commuters, particularly those residing in the suburbs of the Red Zone, are set to benefit from a new initiative by the Islamabad Traffic Police. A dedicated “verified lane” is being introduced to alleviate traffic congestion and facilitate easier access to the area.

To utilize this lane, vehicles must be registered with the police and their drivers must obtain a special sticker. Once verified, these vehicles will be exempted from routine security checks, allowing for quicker entry into the Red Zone.

The final decision on the implementation of this new lane will be made by the Inspector General of Islamabad.

A Move Toward Safe Roads

It is pertinent to mention that this is not the first move advancing towards the safe roads for the commuters, last month, Islamabad police posted a critical reminder on social media, read: Don’t Drink & Drive.

Given alcohol consumption is not among the norms in the country, this announcement might be unexpected. However, as many foreigners reside and drive in the capital, it’s important to share this information with them.

Drinking and driving is one of the most dangerous and irresponsible behavior a person can engage in on the road. It not only puts the driver at risk but also endangers the lives of passengers, pedestrians, and other motorists. Following the same concern, the federal government made the said decision.

When you drink, your coordination and reaction times slow down significantly. You may not be able to hit the brakes in time if a car stops abruptly in front of you or if a pedestrian crosses the road unexpectedly.

In situations that demand quick reflexes, a split-second delay can be the difference between a close call and a fatal collision.
