In anticipation of the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Islamabad, the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has implemented a comprehensive traffic plan. The plan aims to ensure smooth traffic flow and minimize disruptions during the event as all type of heavy traffic will be restricted from entering Islamabad from October 14 to 16.
Alternative Routes
During the summit, several roads will be closed to traffic, including Millat Road to Kashmir Chowk and Dhokri Serena Hotel, Rawal Dam Chowk to Kashmir Chowk and Serena Malpur, and Aabpara and Srinagar Highway to Serena.
Alternative routes have been designated for motorists. For those traveling from Murree and Bhara Kahu to Rawalpindi, Korang Road, Bani Gala, and Park Road are recommended. Similarly, those traveling from Faizabad to Bhara Kahu and Murree can use Park Road, Bani Gala, and Korang Road.
For those on Srinagar Highway heading towards Murree and Bhara Kahu, Chand Tara Chowk, Pak China Centre, Sports Complex, Murree Road, Park Road, Bani Gala, and Korang Road are suggested alternatives.
Heavy traffic from Peshawar to Lahore can use the Taxila motorway and Tarnol Railway crossing to reach the Fateh Jang motorway. For heavy traffic from Lahore via GT Road to Islamabad and Rawalpindi, Chak Beli Road can be used to reach Chakri motorway.
Traffic from Sectors F-5, G-5, G-6, and Margalla Road heading towards Rawalpindi can be diverted via 9th Avenue. Similarly, traffic from Faisal Avenue heading towards Zero Point can also use 9th Avenue.
For those traveling from Bhara Kahu to Rawalpindi, Korang Road, Bani Gala, and Lehtrar Road are recommended. Traffic from Rawalpindi to Islamabad can use 9th Avenue via Saddar and Murree Road. The route between Zero Point, Faisal Avenue, and Koral Chowk using the expressway will be closed, and the service road can be used as an alternative.
Over 585 ITP officers will be deployed to manage traffic and guide citizens. FM Radio 92.4 and other social media channels will provide real-time traffic updates.
The Islamabad Traffic Police urges citizens to cooperate with the authorities and use the suggested alternative routes to ensure a smooth and successful SCO Summit.
