Names like Toyota Hilux Revo usually dominate pickup trucks in Pakistan. ISUZU tried to enter the personal pickup truck in 2018 but couldn’t match up with the Revo. Meanwhile, the JAC entered its new model, the T9 Hunter. Let’s see how these lesser-known contenders stack up and what value they bring to the table.

Notice: For an accurate comparison, we’re focusing on the D-Max V-Cross (automatic/manual variants) and the JAC T9 Hunter. While the price difference between these pickups is significant, the Hi-Lander trim is the price competitor of the JAC T9 Hunter. However, comparing the T9 Hunter to the D-Max Hi-Lander—a more commercial-oriented trim—wouldn’t provide a fair, apple-to-apple comparison. It makes more sense to evaluate personal-use trims against each other rather than contrasting a commercial trim with a personal pickup model.

Pricing

Let’s see the pricing of both vehicles first:

  • Isuzu D-Max V-Cross Automatic 3.0: PKR 11,800,000
  • JAC T9 Hunter: PKR 9,750,000

ISUZU D-MAX V-Cross

New Isuzu D-Max 2024 specifications, features and latest prices in Pakistan | OLX Motors

ISUZU is a global name in heavy-duty and commercial vehicles, but it’s still not a top choice for personal pickups in Pakistan. Launched in 2019, the D-Max aimed to challenge mainstream players like the Hilux Revo. However, it hasn’t made a big splash in the personal pickup market. Its engine is decent and handles rough roads well, but the brand doesn’t enjoy wide recognition here in the personal vehicles market. Not only that, but its maintenance is also tricky, as service centers aren’t as common as Toyota’s.

The fuel economy is also respectable, but overall consumer interest remains lukewarm. If you want something different and don’t mind fewer service outlets, the D-Max can serve reliably. However, don’t expect it to match Revo in popularity or resale value. Plus, the road presence and mafia vibes undoubtedly go to Revo.

Regarding the specs, there’s a 3.0-liter diesel engine that makes about 161 HP of power and 380 Nm of torque, which is way lower than the 500 Nm torque of Revo. Even the JAC T9’s torque is 410 Nm, which consists of an even smaller 2.0-liter engine.

The interior has a plastic dashboard and leather seats, and the overall interior looks circular-shaped; whether it is boring or interesting depends on personal taste.

This pick-up’s top trim costs 1.18 crore, which is an automatic trim variant that also comes with Android Auto. The manual V-Cross trim doesn’t come OEM with Android Auto, and they charge 1.10 crore for that one.

JAC T9 Hunter

JAC T9 Hunter - A Substantial And Stylish Bakkie

The JAC T9 Hunter is a newer face, but it’s catching attention. Why? It has a modern design that sets it apart from older trucks. The engine performance is competitive, and it feels stable on highways. JAC is still establishing its presence in Pakistan, so after-sales service may be a concern in some regions.  However, early feedback points to decent reliability and a comfortable cabin.

We believe the T9 Hunter appeals to those looking for something fresh. Its engine is smaller, although 2.0-liter, but still makes 7 HP and 30 Nm more than the D-Max, i.e., 168 HP and 410 Nm of torque. Its payload is 1,000 Kgs, and its towing capacity is 3,000 Kgs. It is not the best, but we guess no one will face a bottleneck.

The leather-accented interior gives it a premium look, and the red stitching gives a posh feeling as you’re sitting in an American made pickup truck. The design of seats is also unique, and the ambient light is like a cherry on cake.

In conclusion, if you don’t prefer the road presence and can compromise on the resale and brand’s value, JAC could be a great choice packed with plenty of features. The ambient lighting, interior stylings, dashboard and 9.75 million pricing looks value for money to us.
