Lahore’s Metro Bus Service, a lifeline for thousands of daily commuters, has come to a standstill due to political unrest tied to a political party. The decision to suspend the service follows a police crackdown on protesters, causing significant disruption to the city’s public transportation network.
Initially, the Metro Bus route was partially curtailed, but as tensions escalated, authorities opted for a complete shutdown, leaving passengers scrambling for alternatives.
While the Orange Line train service continues to operate, the closure of all Metro Bus stops has left countless people stranded and struggling to reach their destinations.
This dual blow of transport and communication interruptions has exacerbated the challenges for Lahore residents, highlighting the cascading impact of political unrest on daily life.
Traffic Update
The Lahore City Traffic Police have provided updates on the traffic situation amidst ongoing political protests. According to their social media platforms, the city’s entry and exit points are now accessible. They stated, “Ravi & Old Ravi Bridge, along with Saggian, are open for traffic. Commuters can also travel toward Thokar Niaz Baig via Multan Road, while Raiwind Road and Ferozepur Road remain open for movement.”
However, motorways, the eastern bypass, and Babu Sabu Ring Roads are still closed for traffic entry and exit. “All the interchanges are closed for traffic, and citizens should call 15 before making a travel plan,” the force announced.
Motorways Blocked
Several major motorways, including M-1 (Peshawar to Islamabad), M-2 (Lahore to Islamabad), M-3 (Lahore to Abdul Hakeem), M-4 (Pindi Bhattian to Multan), M-11 (Sialkot to Lahore), and M-14 (Hakla to Yarik), remain closed for all traffic. The National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP) attribute the closures to ongoing road maintenance and urge commuters to plan their journeys accordingly to avoid inconvenience.
Additionally, media reports indicate that the GT Road connecting Lahore to Gujranwala and extending toward Islamabad has been shut down at multiple points due to traffic disruptions.
The closures have heightened concerns for those relying on these key arteries, underscoring the importance of staying updated through official channels for smoother travel plans.
