It seems Land Rover doesn’t want to let the Classic Defender fade away. The company has introduced an upgraded version of this iconic and rugged off-road vehicle. However, the general production of Defender stopped in 2016. It’s basically a restoration of donor cars from 2012 to 2016, for which you will have to pay a costly amount.

Work Bespoke’s Role In Legendary Defender

The bespoke work is a division of Land Rover’s Classic that does modifications and restorations in the 2012-2016 models of Defender. Additionally, Work Bespoke offers extensive customization options that enable customers to modify their Defenders to enjoy driving with comfort and ease.

Each Classic Defender is the result of hundreds of hours of craftsmanship by engineers. In other words, these “donor vehicles” have been “remastered by hand” by engineers from the Land Rover Classic in the UK.

The clients can design their Defender V8 using the new digital Land Rover Classic configurator tool. They can also receive dedicated support and help from teams at Classic Works in UK and Germany.

Specifications

The Land Rover Classic Defender has a V8 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine. This classic off-roader produces 405 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque (516.8 Nm) with reliable speed and acceleration. Plus, the vehicle combines its horsepower and torque with an 8-speed transmission from ZF, a German company specializing in transmissions and other automotive components.

Interior

The interior has 13 trim colors available, (with five different color options, or eight two-tone finishes) from which customers can choose their desired choice. Moreover, the car has three seating options with a customized front Recaro for driving comfort. The Defender’s interior is made up of leather that covers the seats, dashboard, panels, and pillars.

Regarding the infotainment, we learn that the car’s classic radio has been replaced with a 3.5-inch touchscreen that includes DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting), navigation, and bluetooth.

Furthermore, Land Rover is not the only company that has installed a small touchscreen into an old car. Porsche, the German automobile manufacturer, has been doing this same job for several years. The Porsche Classic Communication Management System resembles what the Land Rover Defender offers. Both have a 3.54-inch touchscreen with similar-shaped buttons.

Exterior

The Defender’s exterior has remained unchanged in its original design, with only upgraded lightning and a new paint job. The customers have 46 paint options and can choose between a shorter 90- and 110-long wheelbase. In addition, it has preserved its boxy shape and aesthetics with a rough appearance that complements its ability to withstand diversified terrains.

Suspension And Braking

The Land Rover comprises Bilstein Dampers and Eibach springs, which contribute to reliable handling and stability. Furthermore, the inclusion of anti-roll bars reduces the chances of the vehicle’s body rolling during cornering, thus providing exceptional responsiveness while driving.

Its four-piston Alcon brakes, with 335-millimeter discs at the front and 330-millimeter discs at the rear, further enhance the stopping power and add value to the overall suspension.

Additional Customization Options

Customers can extensively customize the car, including adding roof-mounted tents that are accessible via a ladder. Furthermore, the camper conversion options allow the drivers to transform the rear cabin into a living area.

 Price

This classic off-roader has a costly price tag. The base three-door 90 model costs £190,000 (about $251,000), while the five-seat 110 version costs £199,000 ($263,200). Plus, the seven-seat model costs £204,000 ($270,000). The prices are before any additional options, excluding VAT, which is 20% in the UK.

Classic Defender Competitors

The Land Rover Competitors include the Ineous Grenadier, a more affordable alternative. It starts at £65,015 (about $75,100 in the US). However, it lacks the V8 engine and consists of BMW-sourced inline-six engines. It is a reliable option with exceptional off-roading capabilities, especially for those with a low budget. It is about three times cheaper than the Classic Defender.
