Just a few hours ago, some CAD-based images of the upcoming Google Pixel 9 Pro were revealed, and now it’s time for its smaller and more affordable counterpart to receive the same treatment. Introducing the Google Pixel 9.

One noticeable difference right away is that, unlike the Pixel 8, the Pixel 9 features three cameras on the back, one of which clearly has a periscope zoom lens. This is a significant update for the standard Pixel line, bringing it more in line with the Pro model in terms of specifications.

Another noticeable change is that Google has adopted the ‘flat sides’ trend started by Apple. The curved frame of the Pixel 8 is now replaced with iPhone-like flatness. While the preference for a flat or curved frame is subjective, it’s worth noting that the trend of every company following the same design can be unoriginal and repetitive.

The camera island has also been changed. It’s no longer spilling into the frame and is now oval-shaped, taking up most of the width of the phone. While it’s recognizable as a Pixel, it’s a departure from previous designs.

On the front, the flat frame is visible, and the screen bezels appear symmetrical. There’s a single hole-punch cutout for the selfie camera at the top middle of the screen.

According to the source, the Pixel 9 will measure 152.8 x 71.9 x 8.5 mm (the camera bump will take the thickness to 12 mm). This makes it slightly taller, wider, and slimmer than its predecessor. It’s expected to have a 6.1-inch screen, which is smaller than the Pixel 8’s and may have a different aspect ratio.

Other details about the Pixel 9 are still unknown, but with about eight months until its expected release, more leaks are likely to emerge. Stay tuned for updates as we learn more.
