Every motorcycle has a discrete body type, from GS150 to CG125 to CD70. In case you don’t know, here’s the body type explained for motorcycles that we know so far for Pakistani bikes.
Small Utility Bike
One of the prime examples of utility bikes is the Honda CD70 and Pridor. Both bikes fall under the category of Small utility motorcycles. The things that distinguish them is their small engine and simplicity without any fancy and not even standard features. They are just designed to move you from point A to point B through a plain asphalt road. Yes, they are not made for muddy and pothole roads. The primary consumers of these types of bikes are those who just want very cheap transportation methods for their home-to-office and office-to-home.
Standard Motorcycle
Standard motorcycles are those that contain the least bodywork, have good and adequate engine power, and can be used for short intercity traveling. Now, some people might comment at the bottom of the blog that “your definition for standard motorcycle is wrong, this or that.” Actually, the definition differs based on the region and market. According to Pakistan, the above definition fulfills the standard bike.
For example, CG125 is a starter example of what we call a standard motorcycle—neutral sitting posture, minimal bodywork, adequate for normal off-roading, and made for general-purpose usage. Suzuki GS150, GR150, and CB150 also fall under this category, but they are on the upper side of the standard motorcycle category.
Café Racer
A café racer is a motorcycle known for its minimalist and retro-inspired design originating from the 1960s British motorcycle culture. These bikes feature a low, aggressive stance with clip-on handlebars and rear-set foot pegs, creating a racing posture for the rider. The design is stripped down to essentials, often showcasing an elongated fuel tank, a solo seat with a rear cowl, and a prominently displayed engine.
Café racers are built for style and speed, capturing the essence of vintage racing motorcycles with a modern twist. In Pakistan, Infinity 150 by Hi-speed can be called an excellent example of Cafe Racer. Although it’s only 150cc, the body design and aesthetics is the same as a Cafe Racer.
Scooters
Unlike motorcycles, scooters typically have a step-through frame, allowing riders to sit in an upright position with their feet resting on a floorboard. They are generally heavy and powered by small engines, usually ranging from 50cc to 150cc, making them fuel-efficient and easy to maneuver in traffic. Scooters often feature CVT transmissions, which eliminate the need for manual gear shifting, further enhancing their user-friendliness. Due to their upright sitting posture and CVT transmission, they are often owned by women in Pakistan. Although it is nowhere written that only women can ride scooters, the trend is leaning more toward women driving scooters.
Touring Motorcycles
A touring motorcycle is designed for long-distance travel and provides comfort and convenience for extended rides. These bikes typically feature a more relaxed riding position, with a comfortable seat, higher handlebars, and often a larger windscreen to reduce fatigue and enhance comfort on long journeys.
Touring motorcycles also come equipped with features such as saddlebags or top cases for ample storage, advanced electronics like GPS systems and cruise control, and enhanced suspension systems for a smoother ride. They are built to handle a variety of road conditions and offer increased stability and control, making them ideal for long trips and cross-country adventures.
In Pakistan, we don’t have any proper touring motorcycles, but people customize GS150 and CB150s into touring bikes by adding saddlebags and top cases and taking them on long northern tours.
Super Bikes
Superbikes are performance-oriented motorcycles that solely focus on speed, power, and acceleration. These motorcycles lean more towards powerful engines, often exceeding 600cc, and produce a great power-to-weight ratio. In Pakistan, these superbikes are super expensive, and only true upper-class enthusiasts often own this kind of motorcycle, likely from Kawasaki Ninja, Suzuki Gixxer, and Honda CB series.
Those budget people who can’t afford these super expensive motorcycles often go with Chinese replica motorcycles like Zongshen and all that. These Chinese replicas have the counterfeit bodies of original JDM superbikes, but their engine is smaller, usually single-cylinder 250-400cc air-cooled.
