The Apple Vision Pro pre-orders began last week, and according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple has sold between 160,000 and 180,000 units. However, those who purchased the spatial computer won’t be able to use it to watch Netflix.
Netflix Co-CEO Greg Peters stated in an interview with Stratechery that there won’t be a Netflix app on the Vision Pro anytime soon. He explained that there aren’t enough potential subscribers who own the headset to justify the effort in porting the streaming app to the platform.
This does not mean that a Netflix app will never be available on the Apple Vision Pro. Peters mentioned that the company is not against it but is waiting to see how the situation unfolds.
Not only Netflix, but other companies like YouTube and Spotify also have no plans to create dedicated apps for the Apple headset. However, they can still be accessed using the web browser.
While Netflix won’t be available on the Vision Pro, Apple’s own Apple TV+ streaming service is accessible. The service features a new format called “Apple Immersive Video”, which offers 180° 3D footage in 8K resolution and Spatial Audio.
Back in 2015, Netflix launched a VR app and produced a 360° video featuring its popular Stranger Things series (which was posted on YouTube). Although Netflix offers many other VR movies, they won’t be available on the Vision Pro.
