Porsche introduced the new second-generation Macan as an electric model, utilizing VW’s latest 800V PPE platform. This innovative EV features a 100 kWh battery integrated into the car’s underside, with rapid 270 kW DC charging (10-80% in just 21 minutes), two electric motors with a combined output of up to 470 kW (639 ps), and a WLTP range of up to 613 km.

Internally, the vehicle is equipped with Google’s Android Automotive OS, making it one of the first cars to run on this standalone OS. Unlike Android Auto, which mirrors your phone on the car’s infotainment, the Macan’s infotainment system natively operates on Android Automotive OS.

The Macan’s “Hey Porsche” voice assistant is an integral part of Android Automotive OS, offering route suggestions and including charging stops.

Android Automotive has its own app store with third-party apps such as podcasts, games like Beach Buggy Racing, and streaming options like YouTube and DAZN.

Porsche’s built-in App Center will initiate Android Automotive as you approach the car, ensuring the OS is ready once you enter. It will also manage background software updates.

While Porsche did not disclose which chip powers the Android Automotive OS, they assure that performance will not be compromised no matter how many apps you install.

For iPhone users, CarPlay is integrated into the Macan to accommodate the majority of Porsche’s clientele. When using CarPlay, Apple Maps is displayed in the instrument cluster, and there is no need to exit CarPlay to adjust the car’s climate controls, as they are easily accessible from the CarPlay main screen.
