Why Suzuki Every Replaced Bolan?
In 2021, the Lahore High Court directed the Engineering Development Board (EDB) to ensure that all car manufacturers equip their vehicles with airbags. Following this order, PakWheels contacted the EDB, and an official confirmed that local manufacturers and importers were instructed to comply with international safety standards (WP-29) by installing airbags by the end of 2021. However, companies were given an 18-month extension, pushing the deadline to mid-2023.
Despite this, Suzuki Bolan continued to be sold without airbags even after the extended deadline was passed. The EDB official further confirmed that airbags will be mandatory in all cars by mid-2024, signaled that vehicle like the Suzuki Bolan, which lack this essential safety feature, will soon be discontinued.
With airbags becoming a legal requirement, the aging Suzuki Bolan was expected to be phased out, making way for a safer model. And this happened last month when PSMC officially discontinued the decades old Bolan and introduction of Every.
For the reference Changan Karvaan‘s current price is Rs. 30 lacs and it is currently the dominant player in this segment. Suzuki Every is although popular in the market especially being used as commercial taxi but the important thing to remember is that those all are imported units. For local Every, it would be an interesting competition with its direct competitor because it has the emblem of Suzuki, it is now local and one of Big 3 in local car industry of Pakistan.
