Great news for commuters as the Gujranwala Motorway link road is now open to traffic. Caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi, took to Twitter to announce: “5th February, 2024. Exciting news from Gujranwala! Alhamdullilah, the Gujranwala Expressway is now open, connecting M5 with Benazir Chowk.” He also mentioned that this 15.2 km expressway will drastically reduce travel time between Lahore and Gujranwala to just 45 minutes.

Previously, the government had announced that the mega project would be completed by December 25, 2023. Although it was slightly delayed, this ambitious project aims to create an important two-lane connection between Gujranwala and the Lahore-Sialkot Motorway, improving regional transportation infrastructure.

The Initiative

The completion of this project demonstrates effective cooperation between the government and the FWO, instilling hope among the public for the timely completion of this vital infrastructure development. The Gujranwala motorway link road is set to transform travel between Gujranwala and Lahore, reducing travel time to less than 45 minutes.

This decrease in travel time is not just about convenience; it is a transformative change that will positively impact the region’s economic activities, trade, and overall development. The road has been a long-standing demand of the people of Gujranwala, and will particularly benefit those who regularly travel between the two cities.

Additionally, it will alleviate the burden on the Grand Trunk (GT) Road, which has been the main road between these two cities and often remains under construction in various sections. This expressway will also connect the surrounding villages and small towns of Gujranwala, providing them with a faster transportation route. Overall, this road will be a boon for the people of Gujranwala. What are your thoughts on the Gujranwala Motorway Link Road? Do you believe it will be a game-changer?
