Greetings as we near the close of the second week of 2024! The Poco X6 and X6 Pro have made their debut with 6.67-inch AMOLED displays featuring a 1,220 x 2,712px resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and up to 1,800 nits of peak brightness. They also both boast a 16MP front-facing camera and in-display fingerprint scanners, marking a first for Poco smartphones.
The Poco X6 Pro runs on Xiaomi HyperOS based on Android 14, while the X6 will launch with MIIUI 14 but is set to be updated to HyperOS soon. Poco promises 3 Android updates and 4 years of security patches for both X6 models. The X6 Pro is equipped with a 5,000 mAh battery with 67W charging, while the X6 gets a slightly larger 5,100 mAh battery with the same 67W charging speeds.
The upcoming Galaxy S24 series will feature 10% more touch-responsive displays, delivering a smoother and faster user experience. The official unveiling of the S24 family is expected next week, generating much anticipation.
The Oppo Find X7 Ultra has debuted as the first Ultra in Oppo’s lineup, featuring the first-ever dual-periscope phone. The main camera stands out as the first to use the Sony LYT-900 1-inch sensor. It’s the dual-periscope solution that sets the X7 Ultra apart. The device retains the 65mm 3x periscope camera with 1/1.56” Sony IMX890 from the Oppo Find X6 Pro, as well as a 135mm 6x telephoto camera. Realme has also announced a partnership with Rolex for the upcoming Realme 12 Pro series, which will include a custom variant of the 12 Pro+ smartphone with Blue leather and gold accents on the back.
The ROG Phone 8 has been officially unveiled, featuring a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip and a large vapor chamber. Surprisingly, the ROG Phone 8 is the first in the series to be IP68 waterproof, to offer wireless charging, and to feature a 3x zoom camera. The starting price for the ROG Phone 8 is $1,099 in the US and €1,099 in Europe.
The display still supports a 165Hz refresh rate but is now an LTPO panel that can also do a 1-120Hz variable refresh rate. Asus has also added wireless charging.
As arguably the biggest foldables fan at the office, I don’t share the sentiment expressed by some of my colleagues that the year was boring.
Finally, the Honor Magic6 series has been introduced, with the Pro model featuring a unique 180MP periscope with a 2.5x zoom, an f/2.6 aperture, and a large 1/1.49-inch sensor. The Magic6 Pro’s main camera is a 50MP 1/1.3-inch imager with a variable aperture lens – f/1.4-2.0. The Magic6 series is currently available in China.
