In the realm of buzzwords, 2023 was dominated by AI, and it seems like 2024 is following suit. OnePlus has now joined the AI trend with the introduction of a new feature called AI Eraser.
AI Eraser does exactly what its name implies – it removes unwanted elements from your photos, much like similar tools from other companies. OnePlus has shared a comparison to showcase the effectiveness of this feature, and the results are impressive – no more awkward photo bombs.
This feature will be rolled out this month to the OnePlus 12, OnePlus 12R, OnePlus Open, OnePlus 11, and OnePlus Nord CE4 in all officially available regions. However, European devices will receive the AI Eraser feature “later in Q2 2024”, before the end of June.
It remains unclear whether the feature will be integrated through an OxygenOS update or an update to the OnePlus Photo Gallery app, where it will be accessed. Additionally, it is unknown whether the AI processing will be done on-device or if an internet connection will be required.
OnePlus emphasizes that AI Eraser is the result of significant research and development efforts, aimed at ensuring the accuracy and reliability of AI-generated content. The proprietary model behind this feature has been trained on a vast dataset to understand complex scenes, allowing it to intelligently replace unwanted objects with contextually appropriate elements to enhance the photo’s appeal.
OnePlus President and COO Kinder Liu stated:
At OnePlus, we strive to empower users with advanced, practical technology. Generative AI technology has the potential to revolutionize productivity and creativity on mobile devices. AI Eraser is our first feature based on this technology, and it marks the beginning of our vision to enhance user creativity through AI in photo editing. We have more AI features planned for this year, and we are excited to introduce them soon.
It appears that OnePlus is gearing up to introduce more AI features in the near future, although specific details about these features have not been revealed yet. We will have to wait and see what OnePlus has in store for us.
