Samsung is set to release the Galaxy Ring later this year, likely in July, which will bring some competition to the smart ring market dominated by Oura. Oura appears to be gearing up for the challenge from the Korean giant.
Today, Oura has introduced a new Labs section in its app to test out new features and gather user feedback – possibly as a way to set itself apart from Samsung.
The Labs section is currently being rolled out on iOS only, with the first new feature being Symptom Radar. This feature tracks various markers on your body to detect signs of declining health, such as changes in body temperature range, respiratory rate, resting heart rate, and heart rate variability.
If any concerning changes are detected, a notification will appear under the Readiness Score section alerting you to the variations in your symptoms. This allows you to rest if necessary. Enabling this feature will disable notifications from rest mode, as the Symptom Radar prompts are more detailed and focused.
Shyamal Patel, Oura’s Head of Science, explained to TechCrunch:
Oura Labs is our way to involve users in the development of new features in a structured and formal manner. Users will have a dedicated space within the app to engage with the new concepts we are working on. Through Oura Labs, users will see a lot of early-stage ideas.
Users can provide feedback on any Oura Labs feature, as well as general feedback on Oura products, through the Labs section.
