Suzuki’s Margalla has established itself as the top-performing sedan in Pakistan. While Suzuki introduced other sedan options like Baleno, Liana, and Ciaz, they failed to differentiate themselves due to their poor design and unattractive interior. However, Suzuki has consistently excelled in creating high-quality hatchback cars, from the Mehran to the current Suzuki Swift.
Buying Decision
Abdul Wahab purchased a 1993 model of the Suzuki Margalla in grey with a carburetor engine for 1.5 lacs. The Margalla initially entered the Pakistan market as a CBU in 1989 with the Swift badge before being locally assembled in 1991.
Customization
As a classic car enthusiast, Abdul Wahab transformed the Suzuki Margalla into a project car through various modifications. He began with a paint and denting job, keeping the engine stock, and then upgraded the interior with a Baleno steering, Cultus dashboard, and cluster panel. Other modifications included a black garnish at the back, powered side mirrors, a straight exhaust pipe, Dunlop 13-inch tires, and reduced ground clearance.
Engine and Fuel Efficiency
The project car was equipped with a stock Suzuki Margalla 1.3L and four-cylinder G13 engine paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. Abdul Wahab reported fuel efficiency of 10 km/L in the city and 14-15 km/L on long routes. He spends around 6,000 on maintenance every 3000 km.
Project Expenses
Overall, the paint job, modifications, suspension work, and upgrades on the Suzuki Margalla cost around 3 lacs, bringing the total project cost to 5 lacs.
Despite the discontinuation of the Suzuki Margalla, it is still recognized for its exceptional performance, practical fuel efficiency, and sturdy build.
