As 2024 draws to a close, it’s notable that this year was relatively stable compared to the upheavals of 2023, which saw frequent price hikes and significant disruptions in local car production.
In contrast, local automakers embraced stability and made bold strides by diversifying their electric and hybrid vehicle offerings, underscoring their commitment to sustainable mobility. Notably, EVs and hybrids gained remarkable traction, making a strong impact on the automotive market.
Here’s a look back at the hybrid and petrol car launches that made a lasting impression this year.
Toyota Corolla Cross Non Hybrid
Following the introduction of the hybrid model, Indus Motor Company (IMC) has expanded its Corolla Cross lineup with the launch of petrol variants. Available in 1.8x and 1.8 trims, the petrol Corolla Cross offers a more affordable entry point into the crossover SUV segment. Last year, IMC began local assembly of the hybrid Corolla Cross in December 2023, after initially offering it as a fully imported (CBU) model.
The new Toyota Corolla 1.8 Petrol maintains the dimensions of its predecessor, measuring 4460mm long, 1825mm wide, and 1620mm high, with a 2640mm wheelbase and 161mm ground clearance.
Under the hood, the Corolla 1.8 Petrol is equipped with a 2ZR-FE 1798cc gasoline engine that delivers 138hp and 172 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) for smooth power delivery.

Steering wheel controls for MID, audio, phone, voice control, and cruise control are available in the “X” variant, whereas cruise control is absent in the base model. A moonroof is another exclusive feature of the “X” variant.

While real-world figures are expected to be lower, likely in the 28-35 km/l range, it remains highly fuel-efficient. The HS offers a refined driving experience with good cabin insulation and minimal body roll. However, potential blind spots due to the rear D-pillars may require driver attention.
The interior is a standout feature, showcasing premium materials, meticulous build quality, and a design reminiscent of European vehicles. Soft-touch surfaces, leather accents, and a thoughtfully designed center console contribute to an upscale and refined cabin ambiance.
Overall, the MG HS PHEV emerges as a compelling contender in the expanding Pakistani PHEV market. Suzuki Every CKD
For the past couple of years, the local Suzuki Every has been one of the most eagerly awaited vehicles by customers. The anticipation began in 2021 when the Lahore High Court directed the Engineering Development Board (EDB) to ensure that all car manufacturers include airbags in their vehicles.
This directive sparked widespread speculation that Suzuki might launch the Every locally, as retrofitting the decades-old Bolan with airbags seemed virtually impossible. This potential shift marked a significant moment for local automotive safety standards and customer expectations.
Additionally, Pak Suzuki encountered challenges from the Changan Karvaan, a rival MPV in the same segment. In response, Pak Suzuki launched the locally assembled Suzuki Every. Unfortunately, the initial sales figures for the Every have been disappointing.
The Suzuki Every, a classic Kei car, boasts a distinctive boxy design. Its exterior features include halogen headlights, a small grille with multiple air intakes, sliding doors, and keyless entry in the top model.
Inside, the Every offers practical amenities like power steering, keyless entry, a 12V socket, and front power windows in the top variant. The interior is designed with a two-tone color scheme and fabric seats.
