Rumors suggest that Google’s upcoming Pixel Fold smartphone will forgo the Tensor G3 chipset and instead make use of the Tensor G4. The expectation is that the Tensor G4 will power the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro when they are launched this October. If the Fold also features the Tensor G4, then it may only be released alongside the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro.

The original Pixel Fold was unveiled at Google I/O last year, an event that typically takes place in May. Given this, it was expected that its successor would be released this May, but apparently that is not the case – assuming the rumor is accurate, of course.

Google Pixel Fold 2 might sport the Tensor G4 chipset and launch in October

In terms of performance, Google’s Tensor chipsets have never been groundbreaking. Therefore, the idea of the new Fold waiting a few months for a better chip does not seem like a bad one. Additionally, Google is reportedly testing the Pixel Fold 2 with 16GB of RAM, which is more than any previous Pixel device. It also boasts UFS 4.0 storage, a step up from the UFS 3.1 storage in the original model.

While leaks about the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro have already surfaced, there has been no information regarding the Pixel Fold. This absence of information may indirectly confirm today’s rumor.
